Hollingsworth Brothers are proud to announce the opening of a new access point at the Airbus plant in Broughton.  The signal controlled junction, which will provide access to the site from the A5104 Chester Road, is expected to reduce traffic build up caused by vehicles driving into the site.

It is the latest investment in the Broughton plant which produces the wings for all Airbus commercial aircraft and employs more than 6,000 people.

A new signal-controlled junction on the A5104 Chester Road includes a dedicated right turn lane for traffic entering the site from the direction of Saltney and a slip road for vehicles approaching from the retail park end.

The new north gate replaces the previous vehicle access to Airbus via Copse Lane and is designed to accommodate heavy goods vehicles as well as light traffic for buildings in the northern part of the facility.

Head of Broughton plant Paul McKinlay said: “This is a major investment by Airbus which will have a positive impact on our neighbours by reducing the traffic build-up caused by vehicles accessing the site and we’ve asked everyone working here to use the entrance that’s most appropriate for their place of work.

“I want to thank local residents for their patience while this work was carried out.

“With constant manufacturing activity taking place, efficiency is key.

Maintaining easy access to the site for goods deliveries is essential, especially as some of our wings are also transported by road to ensure we’re making the best use of all transport options available.”

The north gate includes a new security lodge, while pedestrian and cycle access continues via the Copse Lane route.
